Free Verse Poetry

Description: We have been learning about Free verse Poetry where you don't have to rhyme or have any amount of lines. I wrote my poem about Christmas. We also had to put some language features in our writing like alliteration, similes and also giving a non living thing a livings things actions. Example:The pillow lay there as if it was asleep.

Big Idea:

Snow falls from the air,

the gingerbread smell,

the pine needles from the Christmas tree circling the smell around the room.

Present rappings and cards, happiness dancing around the street.

Christmas carols, bells ringing.

Family’s get together surprises smiles.

Christmas lights decorations,

Snowmen cold and the fire blazing.

Evaluation: I think I have done very well because I have created a image in
the readers mind, when I write a free verse poem again I might try and add more language features, like similes and alliteration.

Agency Wall

Description: This term we are trying to identify our goals and what we need to work on.
First we had to hilight the things we could do in yellow and the things we could not do in pink.
Then we chose what part of the wall we needed to work on. Here are some questions.

I think I am a Self Managing learner because I need to work on some things epesically my goal now because I have only just heard of it and would like to complete it.

The goal that I am currently working on is... Being open to the cognitive wobble

The things I need to do to achieve this goal are... to get into the learning pit where things are hard.

Paula

Questions

Description: We had to answer so we questions we we had read 7 - 8 chapters then some more questions for 8 - 9 chapters. The book we are reading is this land we call home.

7 - 8 Chapters Questions

Paula remains loyal to her friend Ken in spite of the loss of her brother at Pearl Harbour (p. 53) What does this tell you about Paula?

Ken is a great friend of her brothers & Paula is being nice to him because of the loss.

Can you identify with Paula’s feelings when she finds out Grandpa Miller’s threats?

Worried & anxious about it.

Have you ever felt so angry that you could explode? (P.56) How did you deal with it?

Having to go to bed when they get to stay and watch something

What feelings did the incident in the food store on page 62 evoke in you? What is your stance (opinion) on the issue of persecution of Japanese families?

9 - 10 Chapters Questions

Do you think people should use the term ‘Jap’ (P.70) Why/Why not?

No because it sounds quite rude and is quite offensive in the past they used to but in World War 11
It started to become more derogatory.

Ken makes an entry in his diary about the government freezing bank accounts of Japanese families so people cannot get money out. (P.72) Why do you think the government froaze the accounts?

Because they want them gone and know one likes the Japanese being there.

Can this action be justified? Why/why not?

Yes - By being nice to other people and accepting their decisions.

How does the author convey the feelings of Kaz and Ken as the Izumis prepare to leave their home? (pp 76-77)

This Land We Calł Home

Assess the cover the blurb and the title.
What made you choose this book?
What appeals to you?
What hooked you in?
Make some predictions about the story.  When and where do you think the story is set?  What do you think is going to happen?  Why?

e.g.

1. The front cover made me curious to find what was happening in this image, with the 2
seasons Autum & Spring. Also the title hooked me in because I wanted to know what land was it? Also what was the barb wire why? would there be barb wire there.

2. What appeals to me is the blossom tree and the title on the front, I also would like to read a author's book that I don't know about.

3. What hooked me in was... Reading the blurb hooked me in because I would like to read a book in a different decade.

4. My predictions are... That Ken's family are in the end going to be one of the important family's in their country!

Story Wheel

Description: I choose a story wheel for my tic-tac toe, what I had to do was read an article or a book and illustrate some images through the story telling them in 8 pictures a summary of the story. Here is my picture of the story wheel.

A summary of the story:

This is a quick summary of the story... In the forest was a bird election and they were all fighting against who should be president but then they saw the helicopters and trucks started to appear so they all worked together to stop them and they decided they did not need a president and everyone deserved to be one.

Passion Project

Description: Every Thursday we investigate our passion and turn our passion into
a project. This term I have been working with Georgia around agency. We have been working on a
poster about agency. We have had a Talk with Ana's mum (Nicolette.)
I am doing a poster for the seniors that will be more stern and Georgia is doing the Juniors which will be more fun but at the same time telling them to be Agentic.

This is my progress so far:

WALT: Use the PASSION inquiry process to investigate my passion, independently/in small groups.

My passion project is: To make a Poster about Agency so that more people are showing
agency and maybe one day I whole school could become agentic learners.

Big Idea: I am trying to get better at making a poster like, Layout, Colors, Fonts, Text & Visuals like pictures.

Evaluation: I think I have improved my skills on making better posters and more
hooking. Layout & colors I think I have aseptically done well on these things because I would have used lots of pictures and not put my writing in the center where most people read I would have put it all over the place. Nicolette also helped me a lot with my skills.

FeedBack/FeedForward: I think your progress so far has really improved in your design. I love the design that you have done so far and the detail. Rosalind:)

Video Report Summarize:

Big Idea: We had to video or write a summary about WOW with
When, Why, What and How.

Evaluation: I think I have done well by summarizing this into a smaller paragraph and have
used the three Ws really well. Next time I could put it into 20 words to summarize this article.

FeedBack/FeedForward:  i think you did a good job one your news because you tell them what and it gives you all the information that they need. I think you might need two work on made be have some photos of the costumes, what they made. Alyssa :)

Kapa haka Reflection

Description: In Kapa Haka I play the Guitar where I have to play the songs, Nic is the official
player and he is teaching me the songs. In my other post about Kapa Haka I had a goal that I was trying to improve on, here it is.

Goal: I need to work on starting a song and strumming the right rhythm I think I am improving on playing the right chords throughout the songs.

Image:

Evaluation: This year I think I have completed one part of my goal because I have
put some effort into practicing and can get the strum right, now I just have to work on getting
the chords right and sounding good.

New Goal: For next term I would like to be able to play at least one song by the end of next term.

FeedBack/FeedForward: You are doing a great job at learning to be the guitar player. You just need to work on strumming louder. Ana :D

My Plan:

Story/Big Idea: There is always a Beginning Middle & End in a any story my goal is to entertain so
I wrote a narrative. The clues I put in were... This morning I absolutely had to sharpen my claws. The clue is why didn't Luna just go to the cardboard to get the treats. She sharpened her claws before hand.

Evaluation: I think I have improved on my Ideas and Organized them well by fitting them all in
I think I have improved on a lot of things and I think I could work on using only the words I actually need. I think I also need to work on putting more than 1 clue into my writing.

FeedBack/FeedForward: I think you have very good words in your story but some of the spacing is not right but i really like your story! Katie :)

Reason: I think we should change the flag because people get up mixed up with Australians
and it also has the Union Jack which is a British symbol but that was only when they ruled us.

Story Wheel

Description: My goal is Summarizing. Summarizing is to sum up a story to make it shorter and pick out the main parts of the (article/story.) To help someone get a tiny bit of what the story is about.

Here is the link:  http://www.kiwikidsnews.co.nz/
blog/the-weirdest-favoured-jelly-beans/

Big Idea: First we had to chose a KKN ( Kiwi Kids News ) article then we had to get a story wheel and illustrate the keywords or key ideas of this article, here is my piece of work. I choose this article

FeedBack/FeedForward: I think you did a great job because you really explained the article well in pictures it really clear what you are trying to explain I don't think you have to work on any thing.

Serena :)

Evaluation: I think I have done well taking away the main parts and
putting them into a short story, I think that I need to work on making my images clearer.
