Inter-School Cross Country

Description: On the 17/06/15 a group of year 6 and 5s went to run a 3.2km run. We were all very muddy at the end, i slipped over about 3 times. We went to a farm last year we went to Massey Track. It was much harder this year with the steeper hills and slipperier grass. Here are a couple of photos of me when I was sprinting at the end.

Evaluation: I think I have done well by not walking and trying my hardest, Next time my goal is to
get in the top 20. This year I got 42nd out of around about 136 people. I am happy with my result.

Kapa Haka

Description: In Kapa Haka we have been practicing songs I play the guitar so I have to play the songs. Here are some questions that explain what is challenging, what I will do to manage to help this challenge, what I enjoy, what I am most proud of and a personal goal for me.




Big Idea:


At kapahaka I enjoy... Playing the guitar and watching the kapa haka perform


I am most proud of… I am most proud of myself for trying to play but am improving


I find….challenging because… Starting a song because I find it hard to strum the rhythm


I am managing this challenge by…. I will practice perfect to make it perfect


A personal goal for me is… Is to be able to start a song by the end of the year


Our school wide focus this term has been around showing excellence. I show this at kapa haka by... trying my hardest to keep my rhythm and my chords the same as Nic.


Evaluation: I need to work on starting a song and strumming the right rhythm I think I am improving on playing the right chords throughout the songs.

Writing

Description: In writing we have chosen a writing goal to work on my goal is to use connectives usefully and not use them to much. Connectives are when you connect two sentences together. We have written a story from a picture and written a story to describe the picture and tell them what our imaginations are thinking of before and after the picture here is my story.

   Evaluation: I think I need to work on using connectives more often and using them when I can something I have done well was using speech marks in the right places. I also think I am improving on showing the reader the characters feelings not telling them. 


 FeedBack/Forward: Wow Grace! You are a amazing writer. I wish  I was as good has you. I recon you will be a famous author just like Lauren Child . My favorite sentence was when Zone said ' Hel-lo' Keep up the good work!

Maths

Description: In maths this term we have been learning about three types of strategies reversibility, rounding & compensating, equal addition and place value partitioning. We have also been having workshops for maths I am in Troy A.














Big Idea: I have mainly been working on place value & partitioning. Here is how you do it,

234 + 138 = 372
    
8 + 4 = 12
30 + 30 = 60
100 + 200 = 300

300 + 60 = 360 + 12 = 372


Evaluation: Next time I need to work on Place Value & Partitioning to make sure
I get the right answer every time. What strategy I have done well at is Reversibility.

FeedBack/FeedForward: i think you have worked out all of the problems well. but maybe next time you could show more working out on problems 3 and your second way of working out problem 4.

Inquiry Presantation

Description: In science we have been learning about how to be a good scientist.
my inquiry was about sea otters. We had to find information about our main question we were focused on. We were mainly focused on their biological adaptations and behavioral adaptations.

Purpose: To think like a scientist

Tortoise And The Hare

Description: For our reading portfolio post I decided that I shall choose for my tic tac-toe The Tortoise And The Hare. My goal is Comprehension we read the story and then we had to answer some questions about the story.

Evaluation:
In my workshops I have been learning to make connections with the text. 
(Text to text, Text to world and Text to self.) I know I am getting better because I can make connections to the world, text and to myself. I can improve on making text to text connection i think I succeeded making text to world and text to self connections.
